COUNCIL OF SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH Received a Patent for Reduction of OXYGEN ELECTROCATALYSIS

Council for Scientific and Industrial Research SA provides commercial services. The Company offers scientific and technology research and development services. Council for Scientific and Industrial Research operates in South Africa.

In India, the Pharmaceutical business of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research is focused on Electrode and process for preparing the electrode and devices thereof, Pro-Amb reverse turn restricted bioactive peptide analogues, Modified thin film composite reverse osmosis membrane and a process for preparation thereof.

Council of Scientific & Industrial Research filed patent application numbered 3169/DEL/2013 that is titled A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF NITROGEN DOPED CARON NANOHORNS FOR OXYGEN REDUCTION ELECTROCATALYSIS. This Patent Application has been granted as  Patent number 316990.

The invention covers Electrical compound. This invention involves a process for the preparation of nitrogen doped carbon nanohorns with enhanced conductivity and improved surface area comprising a pre-treating the carbon nanohorns and an annealing the carbon nanohorns of the former in the presence of a nitrogen source at 500-1200°C for 1-3 hours, wherein the pre-treating of the carbon nanohorns results into functionalization of the carbon nanohorns which is carried out using hydrogen peroxide; wherein the nitrogen doped carbon nanohorns are co-doped with a metal selected from Fe and Co, said nitrogen doped carbon nanohorns are useful for oxygen reduction reaction (OPRR).

During patent examination, the patent examiner raised objections under Section 3(d) of the Indian Patents Act that Claim 9 seeks protection for nitrogen doped carbon nanohorns which is a new form of already known product without demonstrating any unexpected effects/results.

As a response to said objection, the applicant submits has redrafted the claim in light of examiner objection. The applicant submits that the revised set of claims are clearly worded and sufficiently defined, novel and inventive over the cited prior art.
