The primary independent claim of this patent states a method for preservation of metadata during an undo operation at a client computer that includes modification of a first section and second section of a document on a word processing application on the client computer that includes performing user action in the first and second section of a document and receiving metadata. After the metadata for the first section of a document is modified and received, the metadata is inserted into the second section of a document and then an undo operation is performed on the word processing application.
