SYNVINA C.V. Received a Patent for PURIFYING OF DIALKYL ESTER OF 2 5 FURANDICARBOXYLIC ACID

Synvina C.V. mission is to establish the world-leading positions in FDCA and PEF. At present, the company produces FDCA at their pilot plant located in Geleen. The FDCA is polymerized to PEF externally by the company’s partners. The PEF is used by Synvina and its partners to develop and produce applications. To realize their ambition of commercializing FDCA and PEF, Synvina is simultaneously working to take the next step in the scale-up of the production processes of FDCA and PEF.

In India, the Pharmaceutical business of Synvina C.V. is focused on process for the preparation of a purified acid composition, process for the preparation of a furfural derivative, process for the preparation of a furfural derivative comprising neutralizing an acid reaction mixture.

Synvina C.V. filed patent application numbered 201727017757 that is titled PROCESS FOR PURIFYING A CRUDE COMPOSITION OF DIALKYL ESTER OF 2 5 FURANDICARBOXYLIC ACID. This Patent Application has been granted as as Patent number 317279.

The invention covers chemical compound. In this invention, an ester composition comprising at least 90 %wt of the dialkyi ester of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid as starting dialkyi ester concentration and up to 5%wt of the monoalkyi ester of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid as starting monoalkyi ester concentration, the percentages being based on the weight of the ester composition, is purified in a process which comprises subjecting the ester composition to melt crystallization to yield a purified dialkyi ester composition containing a dialkyi ester concentration higher than the starting dialkyi ester concentration and a melt residue containing a monoalkyi ester concentration higher than the starting monoalkyi ester concentration. From the melt residue a purified monoalkyi ester composition and a contaminants-rich residue can be prepared via melt crystallization. The purified dialkyi ester composition and/or the purified monoalkyi ester composition can be hydrolyzed to yield purified 2, 5-furandicarboxylic acid.

During patent examination, the patent examiner raised objections under Section 3(d) of Indian Patents Act that Claims 1- 20 attract the provision of section 3(d) of the Act as the process is the mere use of a known process.

As a response to the said objection, the applicant emphasizes that due to the high concentration of the dialkyl ester and the low amount of the monoalkyl ester the melt crystallization process allows for the  separation of the dialkyl ester from the monoalkyl ester together with any contaminants that are contained in the ester composition.
