SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO. LTD.    GRANTED PATENT FOR APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR NOTIFYING OF SECURITY INFORMATION IN ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND COMPUTER-READABLE RECORDING MEDIUM FOR THE SAME.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is a global enterprise known for providing a wide range of customer and industrial electronic instruments and goods like semiconductors, personal computers, peripherals, monitors, televisions, and home appliances involving air conditioners and microwave ovens. The Company further develops Internet access network web spaces and telecommunications tools such as mobile devices.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. filed a patent application numbered 9862/DELNP/2015 that is titled APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR NOTIFYING OF SECURITY INFORMATION IN ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND COMPUTER-READABLE RECORDING MEDIUM FOR THE SAME. The patent has been filed in the field of Computer Science. This Patent Application has been granted as Patent Number 356918. This invention relates to an apparatus and a method for displaying information required to be secured in a wireless communication terminal is provided. The method includes recognizing (801) generation of notification information of one or more processes activated in a first operation mode among a plurality of operation modes including the first operation mode and a second operation mode and notifying a user of a part of the notification information when a current operation mode is the second operation mode

During the patent examination, the Patent Examiner raised objections under Section 3(k) of the Indian Patents Act, 1970 (as amended).  It was pointed out that without prejudice to objection u/s 2 (1) (j), the subject matter of claims are method claims which are a set of sequences used to implement an algorithm, without disclosing any constructional or structural feature of the said claims. Further certain claims disclose a system that is purely functional in nature. It also does not demonstrate any new ‘technical effect’ and ‘technical contribution’ in the claimed subject matter. The claim is a computer program product having computer-executable instructions, so it is a computer program per se, and also does not demonstrate any ‘technical effect’ and ‘technical contribution’ in the claimed subject matter.

As a response, the Applicant submitted that at the electronic device of the invention, there is a secure mode and a non-secure mode. The invention features displaying for a user – while the device is operating in a non-secure mode — the only part of a notification event that occurred in a secure mode. This feature does not constitute the stipulations under sections 3(k) of Indian patent law.
